Good Bang for Your Buck?

Would I Go Back?

Maybe…

Update – December 14, 2018: Island Torch Bar & Grill has moved to a new location in San Pedro at Mara Laguna.

Island Torch is a small mom & pop establishment serving local Belizean cheap eats. Not a place to wow anyone by any means, but they have a few good things going for them.

  • Location: Being right in front of Central Park, they’re in the midst of it all and very close to the Belize Express Water Taxi dock.
  • Hours: Being open at 6am = very convenient for early risers. And – this is key – they’re one of the few places open on Christmas!
  • Price: Very reasonable, although we only went for breakfast so I can’t comment on lunch or dinner.
Casual spot with patio seating.
Great service by our (young and handsome) server! 🙂 (Geez, I sound like a perv.)

What We Ordered

  • Breakfast Burrito
  • Scrambled Eggs

A typical Belizean breakfast is not generally the healthiest affair. One of the most common breakfast items is the fry jack (aka deep fried dough). Instead of partaking in the local staple, we opted for a breakfast burrito and got a big side of scrambled eggs. (Alex, not being big on unnecessary carbs, promptly gutted his share of the burrito.) Both tasted just fine, especially with healthy splashes of hot sauce.

Yummy! Perhaps not the healthiest, but a decent compromise.

Great service, and getting us in and out in 30 minutes to catch our boat made it a positive experience, but given the myriad other restaurants in town, I would likely try other spots next time (unless we’re in a bind again like we were on Christmas morning). Great place to visit on a budget.
